Kneel down by your back door in August and smell the carpet. If it's musty, you're in good company in Prosperity.
The town used to be called Frog Level, after the low ground and the ponds full of frogs around it. It got renamed after a fire in 1873, but the geography stayed. Add Lake Murray just to the south and a Midlands summer that sits around 90 degrees with the air thick enough to chew, and carpet in older Prosperity houses holds onto smells longer than it should.
Where the smell is coming from
Usually it's one of two things, and often both.
The first is plain old organic buildup. Skin cells, spilled drinks, tracked-in dirt from the yard, all of it sitting in the backing. In dry weather you never notice. When humidity climbs, it starts to smell.
The second is pets. A dog or cat that has had a few accidents in the same spot leaves urine in the pad, and humid air reactivates it every summer. Owners clean the surface, it smells fine for a week, and then it's back. We hear that story constantly.
Two fixes for two problems
For the first problem, a regular cleaning plus our antibacterial sanitizer does most of the work. The sanitizer goes on after the clean and knocks down the bacteria that cause the sour smell.
For the second, you need the pet odor and stain removal treatment. It's a live enzyme that soaks down to the pad and digests the urine itself. Air fresheners and carpet powders just cover it. We'd skip those entirely; they leave residue that attracts more dirt.
What we can't fix
If a house has an actual moisture problem, like a leaky crawlspace, a slab that sweats, or a roof leak, no carpet cleaning will make the smell go away for good. We'll clean what's there and tell you honestly if we think the source is under the floor and not in it.
The visit
It runs in a set order. First a look around, where the nose finds most of the problem areas, and a price. After that comes pre-treatment, the clean itself with a low-moisture machine, and the sanitizer or enzyme where it's needed. Because we use so little water, the carpet dries fast, and that's exactly what you want in a humid house. Slow-drying carpet is how a musty smell gets worse.
